Romblon Bikepacking Trip - Paano at Magkano?

Updated: Jan 18

Embark on an unforgettable bikepacking adventure through Romblon, a stunning province in the MIMAROPA region of the Philippines. Known for its serene islands, quiet roads, and warm local communities, Romblon offers the perfect blend of adventure, culture, and natural beauty.

Itinerary and Overview

Romblon province consists of three main islands: Romblon Island, Tablas, and Sibuyan, along with several smaller islets. For bikepackers, this means you can explore diverse terrains and scenic routes across multiple islands in one trip. Our trip focused on Tablas Island, the largest of the three, and the nearby Carabao Island. Starting from Odiongan Port, we visited several beautiful beaches:

Binucot Beach: Just 20 km from the port via coastal roads, this beach features fine white sand and calm waters, perfect for a relaxing swim or overnight stay.

Aglicay Beach: About 30 km from Binucot, this beach offers fine white sand and windy conditions ideal for riding, with some off-road sections and hills.

Lanas Beach (Carabao Island): After a 45-minute boat ride from Sta Fe port, enjoy calm waters and a mix of fine white sand and coral reefs, perfect for swimming.

Said Beach: Located near the port on Carabao Island, this beach has Boracay-like sand and offers a glimpse into the local community.

Transportation

By Plane: Fly from Manila to Tugdan Airport on Tablas Island (about 1.5 hours). From the airport, take a 45-minute tricycle or jeepney ride to Odiongan town, then a van or ferry to other islands.

By Ferry: Travel from Batangas Port by bus, van, or private car (about 3 hours via SLEX). At the port, you can bring your bike either as baggage (disassembled) or as a vehicle (with inspection stub). Ferry rides take about 9 hours and offer sleeper accommodations. Popular ferry lines include:

  • Starlite Ferries: Basic accommodations, bike free of charge.

  • Montenegro Lines: Standard accommodations, around 900 PHP per bike.

  • 2GO Travel: Premium accommodations, around 100 PHP per bike. For smaller islands, local boats offer cheap and simple transport, often allowing bikes on board with a small tip for porters.

Accommodation

Aglicay Beach: One resort operates the whole beach, offering biker-friendly spaces for bike storage, fishing, and relaxation.

Lanas Beach: Few accommodations mostly owned by foreigners, with budget-friendly backpacker rooms and good food options.

Said Port: Local vibe with affordable options and nearby eateries.

Odiongan Port: Good for overnight stays before ferry departures.

Essentials for Bikepacking in Romblon

  • Any bike setup works; adjust routes based on your bike type.

  • Bring tools and spare parts; expect the unexpected.

  • Prepare physically with training and proper recovery.

  • Skincare is important, especially for longer trips.

  • Pack for comfort and adventure: sandals, flip-flops, warm clothes for ferry rides.

  • Maintain a flexible and patient mindset; ferry rules and schedules can change.

Summary

Romblon is more than a ride—it’s an adventure through serene roads, warm welcomes, and breathtaking island views. This trip combines exploration, exercise, and cultural connection into one unforgettable experience.
